Daniel Craig’s James Bond movies show where the Star Wars sequels went wrong

They really go and do it …

For franchises that spend most of the six decades attached to tight formulas, there is no time to die the final action as thick as they come. Not only the eternal Singleton James bond on the verge of becoming a family man, he was unexpected (and definitively) was killed at the sharp end of the missile series.

This is not how it should be. One of the biggest certainty of Hollywood – that 007 can, and will, walk out of any situation intact – immediately turn on his head. This is an unknown glass area, through – which looks – and increasingly encouraging.

But maybe we shouldn’t be surprised. Since Daniel Craig first running through a wall at Casino Royale, his tenure in MI6 has been marked by the desire to work outside the parameters of conventional missions. Five Craig films always reach the target – no time to die alone has some of the problems themselves – but a series of fairy tales that are full of adventurous, very not bond marking them as a period of gold in a long service history 007.

This is in contrast to the sequel to Star Wars Disney, whose own inability to “let the past die” in the end they destroy.

Even before Sean Connery hung PPK Walther for the last time in 1971, the films of bonds were the opposite of a box of famous Forrest Gump chocolates – you always know what you get. Of course, there is a subtle change in the packaging, with new locations and actions, and Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan took different positions on the scale between the hero of the container and eyebrow levers.

Even so, if you watch bond films between 1973 and 2002, you almost always know you get.

Megalomaniac monologue releases plans to kill millions and / or squeeze cash? Q showing off the choice of his latest gadget? 007 has a brief relationship with several women, one of them will die on final credit? Finalale bombastics, which may or may not happen in spectacular nests? It is the most rare bond marking – if not all – from this touch stone. For many people, the formula nature of the 007 brand is part of the charm.

Spies that like to change

Casino Royale, however, shows that everything doesn’t have to be like that. Response to spoofer spy loving from the Austin Powers series – How do you make old school bond criminals in the world where Dr. Evil is there? – And the action of Grittier Jason Bourne, basically functions as a reboot, rebuilding characters from the bottom up.

Without Q, there is no moneyypenny and rookie bonds, this is the beginning of the ARC story that will continue more than five blockbuster installments. Instead of being trapped in a harsh time when the world changes around him, this bond will evolve. In fact, the Craig film which later acknowledged the fact that he was getting older – something that even failed when 56-year-old Roger Moore tried through a view to kill.

007 This will have a long-term relationship and emotional attachment. And when the franchise remained Q, Moneypenny and Blofeld were finally introduced again, they had given 21st century makeover. Ironically, Brosnan’s final sightseeing in one more day – one of the no doubtless franchise – maybe it was the best thing that had ever happened to him, the catalyst that forced Barbara Broccoli rights holders and Michael G Wilson to see their tuxedo cash cup in the same light new.

Like Casino Royale, Star Wars Disney trilogy, in part, a response to the film that disappointed the large part of the audience – in this case Rakele George Lucas who did not compete it. Lucasfilm instincts did not rediscover their franchise for a long time, but to play safely with riffing in the past glory.
