It turns out there’s much further to Nintendo’s lately released OLED Switch than a new display panel from Samsung. Conducting a teardown of the press, the DIY icons at iFixit plant the company made a variety of internal tweaks that make for a device that’s significantly different from its precursor.
Like Sony’s rearmost PlayStation 5 modification, the OLED Switch features a lower cooling assembly than former models. iFixit suspects Nintendo this tweak to either save on space or telephone back the launch model’s “ cooling overcompensation.” All we can say is we hope the change does n’t lead to claims the new model is “ worse” than its precursor. In another space- saving measure, Nintendo has consolidated some factors onto a single board. The press’s SD card anthology, headphone jack and cartridge anthology are now each plant on a single PCB.
Specially, the only regulator- related change the OLED variant features is a set of new press- side rails that hold their separate Joy-Cons more securely. Another change sees the press’s interconnect lines taped to the top of a essence guard. While that is commodity that will make fixing the OLED Switch on your own more delicate, iFixit suspects it could help with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity issues.
Speaking of order, iFixit gave the OLED model a score of seven out of 10. That’s one lower than the company awarded the original model. The OLED Switch features anon-modular storehouse module that’s soldered to its motherboard, making easy repairs and upgrades on that front commodity you ca n’t do.
